Semiotics is the study of signs and symbols and how they are used. Use the websites below to read about the meanings and symbolism of the colors we have been discussing in class:

Read about the symbolism and meanings of the warm colors Red, Yellow, and Orange, the cool colors Green, Blue, and Purple, and the neutral colors Black, White, Grey, Brown, Beige and Tan. We will discuss these meanings in class tomorrow.

If you finish before the class period ends, you may use this time to catch up on any of the previous Color Week assignments.

Spring 2014 – 27 – Exploring the Color Wheel and Color Harmonies

To use the color wheel to identify and explain color theory terms and color harmonies.

Instructions:

Follow along with the in-class discussion on the color wheel and color definitions.

  1. After you have watched the tutorials, check out the color calculator to see an easy utility for calculating color harmonies based on a given color.
  2. Next, play the Color Game at the Method of Action website. Try to get the highest score possible for each of the Color Harmony levels.
  3. Take a screenshot (Command+Shift+4) of your highest score. You may replay the color game as many times as you wish to try and increase your final score.
  4. Submit the screenshot with your name “Mister Marmolejo Score.png” to folder #27 on the server for participation points.
  5. The highest score in each class will win a prize!
